Overview
Aviareto operates the International Registry on behalf of ICAO, the Supervisory Authority, and within the legal framework of the Cape Town Convention and Aircraft Protocol. The company’s governance reflects the seriousness of that responsibility.
As a joint venture of SITA and the Irish Government, Aviareto is accountable to both shareholders and, in its operational role, to ICAO. Strategic direction is set by the Board of Directors. Independent expertise and industry perspective are provided through the International Registry Advisory Board (IRAB), which advises on matters affecting users of the Registry. The company is subject to regular external audit and reports formally on service performance, system availability and security to the Supervisory Authority.
Board of Directors
Aviareto’s Board of Directors sets the strategic direction of the company and oversees the operation of the International Registry. Drawing on governance, aviation, financial and technology expertise from both shareholders – SITA and the Irish Government – the Board meets regularly to review performance, risk and forward planning.

Shareholders
Aviareto is a joint venture between SITA and the Irish Government.
SITA, a global leader specialist in air transport technology, supplies the company with software development and operational support to the International Registry. The Irish Government’s interest is held through the Department of Transport. Ireland was selected as the home of the International Registry following a competitive bidding process, supported by the country’s established presence in aviation leasing.
International Registry Advisory Board
The International Registry Advisory Board (IRAB) advises Aviareto, as Registrar, on matters relating to the needs of users in connection with the operation, procedures and practices of the Registry. The IRAB works closely with Aviareto to ensure continuous improvement and the evolution of the Registry. This includes future enhancements and changes to the Regulations and Procedures. Past contributions include the development of the current generation (Generation II), which streamlines registrations, multi-asset searches and transaction closings. The IRAB is now engaged on the development of the next generation of the Registry.
